Surrogates (2009)

Imdb

Genre: Action, sci-fi

Director: Jonathan Mostow
Writer: Michael Ferris (screenplay)
John D. Bancato (screenplay)
Robert Venditti (Graphic novel)
Brett Weldele (Graphic novel)

Plot: The movie takes place in a future where the human lives isolated and only leaves their home in their surrogates, a robot version of yourself. A cop, Tom Greer (Bruce Willis), investigates a murder, where the operator of a surrogate got killed while "plugged in", which should be impossible.

I think: Really great cast, everyone capture the "empty robotic eyes", so noone looks really like a human. And nothing to complain about in the special effects.
But with Willis in an action movie I expect action from start to finnish. But this movie did not deliver that, what it did deliver was a good story about a strange futuristic society with great acting and specialeffects.

Summary: Don't expect nonstop action. But it's a good movie with good actors.
Reminds me of that you never know who's behind the computer when you chat...

Up (2009)

Imdb
They made a bad trailer, it doesn't really show what it's about...

Genre: Animation, adventure

Director: Pete Docter
Bob Peterson (Co-director)
Writer: Pete Docter

Plot: During his whole life Carl Fredricksen has longed to travel and explore the world. But at the age of 78 it seems to be to late. But he is about to be forced to move from his and his wifes old house, so he decides to begin a journey to south america, where he and his wife wanted to go her whole life. He ties thousands of ballons to his house and make it to a big hot-air-balloon. But he learns that he isn't alone on his journey, since Russel junior scout accidently happened to stand on Carls porch when he took of. And this is the story of their journey, and the adventure they meet.

I think: Exciting with animated movies that's not only laught, but really has a story and a good message.
I thought it was OK, far from the greatest movie I've ever seen and far from the worse. Average.
I expected more from it.

Summary: They swinged, but they didn't really reach out to me. If you want to see a bit different animated movie, with a good message. Go for it. But I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

The Condemned (2007)

Imdb

Genre: Action

Director: Scott Wiper
Writer: Scott Wiper
Andy Hedden (story)

Plot: Jack Conrad (Steve Austin) is awaiting the death penalty in a prison in Central America. He is "purchased" by a television producer and taken to a desolate island where he and nine other condemned killers from all corners of the world have to fight eachother til death. The last one standing will win his freedom.

I think: Great action, Steve Austin plays the "silent strong" type without anything to complain about. You can't complain about the actionscenes in this movie.
Brings my mind to the Japanese movies "Battle Royale" and "Battle Royale 2"
A bit exaggarated violence at some points and a bit twitchy camera during some of the fights.

Summary: Great actionmovie, not much to complain about. And I must say that I like the actor Vinnie Jones.

Birds of America (2008)

Imdb

Plot: A regular guy, Morrie (Matthew Perry), struggles with his marriage, home and professional life. He inherited his house and the mortgage from his father the day he graduatet. He had to raise his twelve year old sister, Ida (Ginnifer Goodwin) and seven years old brother, Jay (Ben Foster), by himself. Now they're all grown up, but he still have to take care of them. One day he gets a phone-call that Jay is at the hospital, and after some other incidents he ask Jay to move in with him for a while. Then Ida comes to visit to and the family lives together again. The movie is mostly about theis relationship with eachother and other people in town.

I think: Really great acting, especially Ben Foster acts really great. I loved a scene in the middle of the movie (But I can't say why cuase then I'll ruin it for you). I like the way their relationship develop.
A bit slow at some places.

Summary: Great people-meeting-other-people movie, and really good acting from all involved. But a bit slow. If you like action movies, avoid it.

The Tournament (2009)

Imdb

Genre: Action, thriller

Director: Scott Mann

Plot: Every seven year in an unsuspecting town, the tournament takes place. A battle royal 30 of the world's most dangerous assassins. This year the former winner, Joshua Harlow (Ving Rhames), fight again. But this time his out for revenge, becuase he heard that the person who killed his wife also is in the tournament. And a priest (Robert Carlyle) gets drawn in to the game, totally unknowing of the game he's now in.

I think: Action almost non-stop. Great action.
Alot of blood.
Sometimes a bit thin story, but what do you expect. Kind of stereotype fightingstyles; Karate japanese, parkour french, crazy russian etc...

Summary: See it if you like action, great fighting scenes. Don't see it if you're expecting a deep analysis of the meaning of life. Brings my thoughts to "The Condemned".

V for vendetta (2005)

Imdb

Genre: Sci-fi, thriller, action

Director: James McTeigue

Larry Wachowski (Screenplay)
David Lloyd (Graphic novel art)

Plot: V (Hugo Weaving) is a shadowy freedomfighter who uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. He rescuses a girl, Evey (Natalie Portman), from the secret police. And in her he finds a chance of having an ally. The movie is mostly about his fight against the society he lives in, his relationship with Evey and something that happend long ago...

I think: I like this up against the bad society thinking, the small man against the big country. It's great fighting-scenes, and i like the camera-angles in some scenes.
But it's not so realistic all the time.

Summary: Good action, good script. I really like this movie, but if you don't like unrealistic movies, avoid it.

See it with: Alone, friends, or just someone who's against a "big-brother" society.

Blood The last vampire (2009)

Imdb

Genre: Action, thriller

Director: Chris Nahon
Writer: Chris Chow (Screenplay)
Kenji Kamiyama (Character)
Katsuya Terada (Character)

Plot: Based on the anime with the same name. A vampire named Saya (Gianna Jun) is a part of an organisation that hunts and destroy demons. She has to start in an American military school where it has been some strange deaths. So she most find out if some of her classmates are demons.

I think: I liked the anime, but this has a better end (If i remember the anime correct). Often good fighting scenes, but a bit exaggerated.
It feels like they didn't really work the movie through. At some places there are really bad acting comparing to the rest of the movie.

Summary: Good action, but not the best actors and the script is not the greatest, but not bad.
If you like supernatural action and alot of blood, you can see this.

See it with: Alone, the "guys"

The Proposal (2009)

Imdb

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Drama

Director: Anne Fletcher

I think: Great cast, as usual Bullock and Reynolds do their part excellent. Some really funny scenes.
But I feel that if you've seen one romantic comedy you've seen them all. So nothing new there.

Summary: If you like romantic comedys you'll probably like this one to. If you don't like them, avoid this.

See it with: Boy-/girlfriend, the "girls" or just anyone who likes romantic comedys.

New town killers (2008)

Imdb

Genre: Action, Thriller

Director: Richard Jobson

One day two mystic men aproach Sean with a proposition; he gets 12000 pound if he can hide from them for twelve hours. He agree but didn't understand that he was playing with his life...

I think: Good actors, good hunting, good action-scenes. And you wonder about the reason for all this until the very end.
But I've seen it before, it brings my mind to other "runforyourlife" movies. <- Not sure that this should be red...

Summary: Good action, nice scenes. But it has been done before.

See it with: The "guys", Alone

Hearts in Atlantis (2001)

Imdb

So he starts to remember the summer when he turned eleven. Ted becomes kind of a fatherfigure and mentor for Bobby. Ted ask Bobby to keep his eyes open for "low" men, wich are after Ted for some reason.

I think: Anthony Hopkins is a great actor and somehow he lifts up the acting of the others.
Anton Yelchin plays the part of Bobby excellent, you can really see what the boy is feeling.
But it's boring at some points, a bit slow.

Summary: Good movie, a bit slow at some places, good child actors.

See it with: Friends, (older) Family, Alone

So he starts to tell them a story about how he was born 14000 years ago and his lifestory up til present day.

I think: One of the most intresting scripts i've ever seen. It makes you think; Could this be real? And I like it that there are only eleven actors in the entire movie and it all takes place in one place.
The bad part is the acting, it's not the greatest acting I've ever seen.

Summary: Great script, not as great actors, interesting plot. If you can't stand bad acting avoid it.

See it with: Anyone

Twilight (2008)

Genre: Drama, Thriller

Writer(s): Melissa Rosenberg [Screenplay]

Plot: It's about a teenage girl, Isabella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who moves from sunny Phoenix to Forks, a rainy smalltown in Washington. She expects that her life there will be as boring as the city. But she meets the mystic Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinsin) and her life takes a dangerous and unexpected turn since Edward is a vampire. They fall in love and it's about the problems human-vampire love can brings.

I think: Totally ok movie. It was an intresting plot, and the manuscript was excellent. Good effects and not much to complain about.
Except; I think there were some bad acting sometimes, and sadly mostly made of Kristen Stewart she overdid it at some points.

Summary: Good movie, not as good as I've been told. I think it was a bit to hyped for me. But I'm planning on see the next part.

See it with: Boy-/girlfriend, Alone, the "girls", Family

Adventureland (2009)

Imdb
Trailer

Genre: Drama, comedy

Director: Greg Mottola
Writer: Greg Mottola

Plot: It takes place in 1987 and is about James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) Whose father just got demoted, so he have to abandon his plans for a trip to Europe and find a job. He gets a job at the amusementpark "Adventureland" and the whole movie takes place around the people who works there.

I think: It was a great movie, The best I've ever seen Kristen Stewart in. She really goes in for the details, It's not often you see that exellence in the acting about the small details. Jesse Eisenberg is great as the a bit missunderstood teenageboy. All over it was a great script and grat acting from all.
The bad part is that if you've seen one or two movies like this you know just what's going to happen but it's made in another way.

Summary: All over a great movie. but predictible. Some unexpected scenes, but the basic plot is easily seethrough. And if you like music from the 80's you gonna love the soundtrack.
